I think it doesn't matter if it takes 3 years or 10 years. The stock price will be affected when the market can see it is really happening in volume.

I think 3-4 years may be a little early - digital distribution has been around for years, but still does not have much penetration. There are lots of possible reasons for that:

1. People don't like to pay a lot of money for a product that is digital - if the hard drive crashes, you just lost your product. DVD's last.

2. Most content producers have not pushed this distribution mechansism. I think this might be because the teenage crowd still doesn't feel like it has to pay for digital products, whereas it copying a dvd may be a bit more like theft.

3. People still like holding a physical product, like the dvd cover when they pay for a product.

I don't doubt that digital distribution will become ubiquitous at some point in time, and Gamestop had better have a plan by then.
