I think it's not as easy said as done to predict in advance what your taxable income is going to be in a given year. Yes, we know what our SS is, and yes we know any other fixed sources of income, but no we don't know in advance what the taxable distributions might be from mutual funds. This can make for a fairly large swing in taxable income in a given year. Just saying.
