"The Deal" had already been broken by the time I graduated from engineering school in 1977.you're younger .. <g>don't know whether 'many' or not ..but "The Deal" was still expected when i started college in 64(could also depend how alert one was ... i was in grad school in '77 .."The Deal" was starting to look iffy to me, but not yet gone.somewhere mid-eighties before i noticed it gone and GONE)-.... became more like <work hard and maybe you'll get lucky. hard work necessary, but NOT sufficient>
