I don't know about that. "The Deal" had already been broken by the time I graduated from engineering school in 1977.

don't know whether 'many' or not ..but "The Deal" was still expected when i started college in 64

(could also depend how alert one was ... i was in grad school in '77 .."The Deal" was starting to look iffy to me, but not yet gone.

somewhere mid-eighties before i noticed it gone and GONE)
