I can assure you that a big fancy house and "dream" car are not. Are you trying to impress friends by buying drinks and dinner?
In the San Francisco Bay Area $190K a year buys a small house and a regular car.

I can hardly wrap my head around the waste.
It's someone else's income, and someone else's spending. If they choose to spend money on things - and can afford to do so - it isn't "waste," it's their discretionary spending.
