I think spending a lot on many CAT? wired runs to every room will turn out to be a bit of a waste. Sure, wire each room with one Cat5e run.

But the next WiFi is scable by device type up to 1 Gbps, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11ac

And the (better) home automation standards interoperate over your house power lines...they are designed for retrofitting, low power, low data rates and reliability...i.e. verified on or off commands, not toggling like x10
