I think the Pinnochio references were necessary to keep the plot from derailing. They were a necessary evil, not any genius on the director's part. I mean, you really can't tell a story about a robot boy who wants to be real without mentioning pinnochio, can you?

As far as the Deckard thing, Ridley Scott is a moron. The movie works despite his plot twist. I think it's funny that most people miss it.

I tried to watch the director's cut a few days ago but it put me to sleep.
