I too keep wondering who is still buying shares.

A bit more news on the Speechwork objection:

SpeechWorks Objects to L&H Auction

Nov 30, 2001 ( via COMTEX) -- The sale of Lernout & Hauspie's (L&H)
speech recognition technology at bankruptcy auction Monday faces a legal
challenge from Speechworks , an unsuccessful bidder.

The lion's share of L&H's were awarded to ScanSoft , of Peabody, Mass., for $10
million in cash, a $3.5 million note and 7.4 million shares of ScanSoft common
stock valued at about $26 million.

But Speechworks, a Boston firm that makes speech-to-text and voice recognition
applications, filed an objection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to the selection
of ScanSoft "based on the failure of the auction to follow the prescribed
bidding procedures." It did not specifiy how the process varied from the norm.

SpeechWorks has asked the court not to accept the competitive bid and, instead,
require submission of final, sealed bids. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4 to
rule on the bids.

If the deal is approved, ScanSoft said it will retain at least 150 L&H
employees. L&H has dual headquarters in Burlington, Mass., and Ieper, Belgium.

Imagine, a new auction being decided. Is there no end? :-)
