I took my SS at the age of 62. My husband just applied for his SS as he left his job at the end of February. He is 65 1/2 years old. I was told that I could now apply again using the spousal benefit. I got a 30% increase in my benefits and they made it retroactive back to Feb. 1. Needless to say I was thrilled as I hadn't a clue about the spousal benefit thing. If I had waited until I was 66 I would have gotten more money but we needed it now.
