I travel overseas maybe 8 or so times a year. What I do is pull a pile of local currency from the ATM when I land using my boring old ATM card, not a debit Visa or anything like that. My credit union does not charge a foreign fee for this. Then I use cash for almost everything. When I'm ready to check out of the hotel, I use up the rest of my cash on the bill and then put the balance on the credit card. That way I limit the number of transactions on my credit card and keep the costs down. My credit card also charges 1% on foreign purchases.Tredos
