I was very offended. Not every victim of the tragedy was christian. And not every American is either. I considered it a very tacky time to be quoting his own religion. Maybe he thought it was helpful, but, to a nonchristian, Psalm 23 itself is no more calming than Ogden Nash poetry, but it had the symbolic value of "I'm the president and I'm going to exploit this opportunity to talk about my religion even if that excludes you and disrespects the nonchristian victims."

He can claim he was just trying to help, but I didn't feel helped. I felt insulted. There are much better, more inclusive ways, to express your concern.
