I went ahead and ordered 4 matching 512s so this wouldn't be a problem. :)

Actually, it might be a problem. For example, if you have an AMD socket 939 system, and the DIMMs are all "double rank" (i.e. chips on both sides of the DIMM), the system will use a 333Mhz memory speed, instead of the 400Mhz you'd get with most other configurations (scroll down to the "Recommended Memory Combination List" chart):

FYI, I found this page by Googling "double rank dimm."

Though, I ordered a cheap 512M DIMM about 6 months ago and it was single rank, so maybe single rank is sufficiently inexpensive that the manufacturers don't double rank 512M DIMMs nowadays...
