I went around my entire house with 4" thick of small stones - TN river pebble is what they called it. My back hurts just thinking about that job.It looked 10x better than the mulch it replaced and stays in place very well. But the weeds grow right through it. I put the fabric barrier down, but the weight & shifting of the rocks moved it around & bunched it up so much it doesn't do much to help.I like:How they look vs mulchI don't have to replace them or add more rocks every year or twoI don't like:The extra labor involved digging angled trenches to keep the rocks in and low at the edges (keeps mower blades from being an issue)The difficulty moving truckloads of rocks by handWeeds grow better through them than mulch
