I will go way out on a limb, as personal stuff is not my forte.

Miminal penalties...I think it will be late payment penalties. You said that you filed appropriately and timely, correct? It sounds like you will just owe interest, which will be computed from the date your payment was due...on April 15th, 1999,a nd the late payment penalties.

Ahhh, no, your extension only extends the time to pay, but does not delay/defer the obligation to pay.

Try calling the IRS and ask them. They have an 800 number and are in their slow season, but hurry up.
