I wish I knew the solution. However, we need someone to be forced to act decisively either way, on both these issues IMO.The solution is quite simple. Get the government out of the business of deciding what constitutes a "marriage" or not. It's a purely personal decision.Instead, have a separate name for a legal contractual partnership between two or more individuals who have legal capacity to enter into contracts. The most common term is a "civil union," but it could really be anything.The gay community is mainly concerned about equal rights, which is supposed to be guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. If heterosexuals could no longer have their "marriages" legally sanctioned, I doubt that homosexuals would care so much about legalizing gay marriage.
