I wondered about the proposal that there is only a single reason to change cars.

I figure reasons such as "do I want to" and "can I afford it" could be said to be wrapped into the umbrella of what the "mission" is. If part of the mission is defined as "it should appease my desire," or "it should reflect my financial status," then those points can be said to fall into the notion that the only reason to change cars is whether or not the existing car fulfills the missions requirements.

If we're going to argue that there is more than one reason to switch cars, it might be better to argue that the other reason is because the mission has changed.
