Idea [please correct me if my thinking is wrong]:

If you want the library to get the most benefit and you want the highest deduction, sell the valuable books on Amazon and then donate the cash to the library. You also get a write-off that's a lot larger, since you'll know the exact value of the cash donation. Heaven knows the library can do a lot more good with $1500 than they can with one rare or out-of-print book.
