If I were ever going to resume playing tournaments on a regular basis, I would study endgames more than anything. When I used to play tournaments, I lost prize money, small though it was, on more than one occasion due to butchering endgames which I should have won. My openings and middlegames suck too, but it's really a bummer to have somebody beat and wind up pissing away a few bucks because I botch a won endgame. And at your level or mine (1276 USCF), that happens more than nonplayers might think.
