If we suddenly couldn't get any gasoline easily tens of millions could bicycle and maybe well over a third the population. Throw in skate boards, roller skates, and other smaller stuff and 3 mph travel seems avoidable.

What about motor sickles & motorized bikes? I’ll bet that with very little tinkering, I can rig one up to run on propane. My father once told me that, when he was a child in Germany during WW-1, a number of locals rigged up motor bikes that axe-u-lee ran on coal or wood. They had a coal or wood fired “cooker” that heated wood chips or coal, which produced a gas that was burned in the engine to provide motion. Not very efficient but it did work.
