If you are a General, and won't open your mouth for fear your career will be ruined, as opposed to saving thousands of lives, then what kind of gutless punk are you?

I wouldn't presume to know what goes on in the minds of generals, but I would guess that they are not gutless punks. I would guess that some may feel they could do more good for their troops by working on the inside. I would guess that the culture expects/demands fealty to the Commander-in-Chief, making it difficult to express personal reservation directly.. I would guess that some may have expressed concerns and have been rebuffed. I would guess that some witnessed what happened to Gen. Shinseki and decided that they would express their concerns privately to someone who may exert some influence.
