If you are paying your employees fair salaries compared to what they could get elsewhere doing comparable work, I wouldn't worry about hurting morale. Employees shouldn't expect to be paid as a percentage of what the company makes unless they are owners, but bonuses tied to company performance are very reasonable. Any salaried employee at any publicly-owned company knows how much money the company is worth.
