If you get to say 800 million either way, why should it matter? The top 2% don't pay anything near what the rate is set at anyway. If you can cap deductions and close loopholes that would apply to the top and end up with the same amount of revenue, I guess I fail to see what the problem is using a different path to the same result.


frankly I think the Democrats would prefer the reduction/elimination of deductions. I would think it would be harder to bring back deductions "for the rich" than to mess with tax rates. So once the deductions are gone, the rates would go up and Democrats get both.
