If you want to do free texting, just get a Google Voice Number. I know it is ANOTHER number to worry about, but it works great. I don't use one for texting, since I have free unlimited texting with my plan, but my kids use it on their Ipod Touches and I use it as a number I give out online when purchasing something, or if asked for (you can set it to automatically forward to one or several phones). The kids can make calls and text using Google Voice. Only caveat is they have to be on wifi or they are on the ipad (with data). If you already have data on your phone, you could use it on the road as well. My kids hook into the wifi at school, hockey rink, gymnastics, etc and are able to let us know if plans change, need a ride, got a ride, etc. Jeff
