I'm also a share holder of RRD stock plus they are a customer of mine so I've got a lot of experience with the company & how they operate. Solid company with solid management & excellent history. Tough marketplace though as print is continuing to contract although it seems that the contraction is beginning to slow. Most growth in the industry is outside of the US as the over capacity on our shores is substantial plus the impact of IT on print is pretty obvious. South America & of course Asia are the big growth markets for the next several years.
"My son works for the largest commercial printing company in the World -- still a private company based in Wisconsin."
Which private company in Wisconsin are you speaking of?
If it's Quad/Graphics they are no longer private since the purchase of Quebecor/World in 2010. They've moved into the number two slot behind Donnelley & are still working through the consolidation process. Their share price took a major hit last August in the big adjustment & has yet to recover. They too are a good customer of mine & I'm impressed with their company & management.
Toppan Printing claims to be the largest commercial printer in the world but they're based in Japan.
Disclosure: I own a company that sells printing equipment & supplies.
