I'm curious though - who's name IS on the lease now? Roommate? Ex?

My mom is on the lease. She thought she was just co-signing, but apparently the papers are not drawn up that way. They basically want to approach the landlord to say that she is moving out and could the lease be rewritten in my sister's name, but they have a fear of being turned down, and don't want to draw attention to themselves. My mom used to spend quite a bit of time over there helping out with babysitting, but her job has changed and she is not as available anymore, and she does not want this situation to affect her credit in any way (late payments etc.). I guess there have been some tense moments, as my sister does live paycheck to paycheck.
