I'm glad there is an increasing amount of "conflicting info". I really want to understand how it all works, including the economics.

Same place, different link.

http://www.westonaprice.org/know_your_fats/conola.html

Loooooong, with a hot button for somebody in every paragraph...Overview;

'Canola oil is "widely recognized as the healthiest salad and cooking oil available to consumers." It was developed through hybridization of rape seed.'

'Unfortunately, about two-thirds of the mono-unsaturated fatty acids in rapeseed oil are erucic acid, a 22-carbon monounsaturated fatty acid that had been associated with Keshan's disease, characterized by fibrotic lesions of the heart. In the late 1970s, using a technique of genetic manipulation(hmmm,gm stuff :) involving seed splitting,2 Canadian plant breeders came up with a variety of rapeseed that produced a monounsaturated oil low in 22-carbon erucic acid and high in 18-carbon oleic acid.'

' One informant in the publishing industry told us that since the mid 1990s, major publishers would not accept cookbooks unless they included canola in the recipes.'

'Furthermore, it seems to retard growth, which is why the FDA does not allow the use of canola oil in infant formula.19'

'A 1995 Wall Street Journal article reported that use of rapeseed oil in cooking was associated with greatly increased rates of lung cancer in the women breathing the fumes.22 Once again, a lack of saturates in the diet may explain the association, because the lungs can't work without adequate saturated fats.23'

FLOW CHART FOR EDIBLE OIL PROCESSING

Dang, really good won't paste (picture)

'But most of the omega-3s in canola oil are transformed into trans fats during the deodorization process; and research continues to prove that the saturates are necessary and highly protective.'

'This means that the type of diet recommended in books like The Omega Diet—low in protective saturates, bolstered with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and relying on monounsaturated fatty acids, whether from olive or canola oil, for the majority of fat calories—may actually contribute to heart disease.'
----------

I eat real fat, hate homo milk, (not fond of homo's in general) ignore all the 'usefull' info on labels, (That one really tick's me off. Like someone that wipes there butt and cooks supper without washing cares. Then the added insult, burn your food. Just to be sure I guess) I eat a wide range of food and the more I read the more convinced I am that I am doing the right thing.

And hey, remember when they came for your grill??? A hundred and one reasons why grilled food kills everybody. The main one was the tasty charr that caused cancer. Now it is (I guess) a fine line between completly cooked and,,what? There is no excaping these nitty natty nabobs that get paid to tell everybody there gonna die, and here's why. Only to change there minds later.

I did find a good use for hydro veg oil. It works well for getting grease&oil off the hands.

Chris

PS Ok. I walked around and tried to shut up. BUT, I don't get sick, I have (back space in effort to shut up)...Resistance.

One of my favorite sayings is 'try that on a london sewer rat' I know, but the point is a good one.
