I'm going after this because this is, indeed, retirement savings, and I want to streamline the investing as much as possible by keeping it primarily in the same place.

Other ideas are welcome.

I am going to second a taxable investment account. You can likely even mirror whatever you are investing in in a 401K. If it's an account in somewhere different than your other taxable investments, you can consider it another retirement account in your head.

You never know what might happen(unemployment, illness, disability, death) and while you think you have them covered, it is nice to have something you can get to with little effort.

If you don't have a taxable account at this point, you may look for guidance on what kinds of things a better in which kind of account(see earlier post about foreign tax paid ;)
