I'm just starting to look at HSY and have to say, on a personal level, I am horrified that they could substitute veg. oil for cocoa butter and still call it chocolate!I say leave the federal standards alone and just change the formulations on well-known candy brands and see how they do. If people don't notice the taste change, or don't mind it even if they taste it, they'll continue to buy the candy. Really, when people are buying bags of Hershey candy for most holidays, school parties, etc. nobody is reading the labels anyway. Maybe on individual bars. But Real chocoholics are buying the premium stuff anyway. This relabeling is just a "dupe the consumer" ploy. Financially, I see that it makes a great deal of sense. So they should just do it and let "chocolate" remain the wonderful thing it is.I went to the FDA site to check this out and noticed that the public comment period was over......not too many people commented, maybe 30...so either the word didn't get out soon/well enough or not too many people care enough.I take it the FDA hasn't ruled on this, because I can't find anything out on the web about it, though there was a recent 6/25 Mort Rosenblum op-ed piece in the NYT on the subject (I couldn't read it--no subscription).Anyway, I conclude .... it's good for Hershey, not so good for the consumer. Still doing my DD.....Fafar
