a long-term plan so we don't think, "oh, this will be gone in August then we can buy that boat!" :)

Are there things you would do if money were no object?

travel (singly, as a couple, with the family) - A historic tour after the kids are reading: Smithsonian Institution, Gettysburg, National Parks, Williamsburg and Plymouth Plantation.
sail the South Pacific
Bicycling - http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=1&page_id=359...

lessons (singly, as a couple, with the family) - music, more languages [did you know there are summercamps - we sent DD to Concordia in Minnesota]

Help the children learn a trade they can make money at, as well as succeed academically

service (singly, as a couple, with the family)
-volunteer in your town [public library, Scouts, whatever nonprofit appeals to your ideals]

Your situation is pretty comfortable, so I suggest considering dreams...
