Can someone give me another perspective on this? I am 53, on disability, when I turn 65 my pension (small) starts. My husband is 56, working, and plans to retire at 62 and take SS. Our portfolio is about 550,000, kids are grown, only a small mortgage. We expect to have lifetime med. coverage from my former employer. We have both worked pretty hard and lived fairly frugally. I want to take $100,000 and buy a vacation home in Europe - this has been my dream for about 10 years. I say I'm not really spending the money only transferring assets. I want to enjoy life now since I dont know how I'll feel in 5 or 10 years. My husband thinks I'm crazy but will go along with it. Am I making a big mistake? Any opinions will be very welcome.
