I'm still paranoid - I still have my repair software (although it's less useful these days) and an emergency drive that I can start up from if needed. (I keep mine on a flash drive.) Especially if you have an older Mac, it pays to be prepared - the Apple store really only helps you if your computer is reasonably new. If you want to keep an older Mac going, you're pretty much on your own - just like the old days.
Karen, I took my 2007 MacPro to the Genius Bar and they worked with it for three days. Actually, I had somewhat of the same problem...start up issues (could only start in SafeMode), black screen issues. Weird behaviors. Genius bar could find nothing wrong and sent the computer home. It has worked fine ever since. Bizarre. BTW, no charge from Genius Bar.
This thread is confusing me. But I did learn that when CCC asks if you want that extra partition on your clone, I shoulda clicked yes!!
