I'm with galeno on this one. My three rules of investing are:

1. If I can control it I will invest in it; thus I like controlled investments the most like real estate & certain kinds of business ventures.

2. If I can & do understand it I will invest in it; thus investments in U.S. traded equity securities.

3. If I can not control it & I do not understand it; then I won't do it. Thus, at least for me: no foriegn securities, no precious metals, no commodities, & generally no bonds.


P.S. Every time I have broken rule #3 & invested outside the realm of my control or knowledge has been an unmitigated disaster.
