Short Version: Can anyone recommend a site for doing calculations to see if the quotes a retiree is getting for immediate annuities are reasonable?

Longer Version: My 77 year old father retired the old fashioned way -- a pension from Ma Bell when she was Ma Bell. The pension will deliver 50% to mom if dad predeceases her.

He wants to secure more income for them to enjoy now, while their together, and to assist mom if he goes first. He's trying to make the most of about $50,000 worth of telco stocks. He is considering cashing them to buy an immediate annuity, and is shocked at the fees and, considering that the principal goes away, how small the payments are. If it makes sense, he might also consider the same for their $150,000 home equity stake.

Any advise for a fixed-income couple in such a situation?

Thank you.
