Dear Friends: I am exploring how an immediate annuity works. I know, I know-- there are many reasons not to have one, but being an infoholic , I just want to know some basics that I have been unable to find out:

Is the payment the annuitant receives monthly based on the current interest rate? So therefore does it vary? so does the monthly check vary too? is it less during a period of low intest rates and will it get less as rates decend as anticipated?

Lets say I contract for a single premium of $10,000 how is my payback calculated? How much would I get? How about $50,00? $100,000? Is this called an immediate fixed annuity?

Do you know of companies that are better than others for this product?

Is there a web site that shows offerings/comparisons?


And let me thank you in advance for your patience and guidance to this fool. I know I have asked a lot and I appreciate any forward direction.
