In another TS episode, Hilde does a traditional Victorian living room. (Yes, Hilde! The only weird thing she does is paint diagonal blue stripes on the hardwood floor.) Anyway, they frame out the entire brick wall and sheetrock it, leaving an opening for the fireplace with about 6 inches of brick on all sides of the firebox, then add a traditional mantle. It looked great.
