...In my early 40s, I am tired of starting over. My strong preference would be to stay. I cannot, however, stay in this current situation. Waking up and getting to work is becoming a chore and is unsustainable long term.

What is the most diplomatic way to take this to my boss? She has been very passive aggressive and actively avoids conflict, which has made getting feedback very difficult. Coaching has been non-existent.

Should I resign and force the issue, knowing they could just let me go? I'm not bluffing. Resigning is not my first choice but is a very real possibility.
Is it better to take the offer to my boss and ask for a conversation, now, about my career?
Like I said, I am not bluffing. But i can only play this hand one time.

Do you have your new offer in writing? If not ask for a written offer/contract before you resign. I became a Vice President when I was thirty-nine. President/CEO when I was forty-five. Founding General Partner at 68.
