Hello to all,

Within the next 6 months, I would like to purchase a home. I guess what I want to know is where in the world do I start? What are the best options for me, so to speak. This is my situation: I am a 30 year old single mother of one. I currently rent an apartment for which I pay about 700/monthly. I have been doing the rent thing now for at least 8 years and now have the salary support to consider purchasing a home.

In addition to my regular employment venue, I m a 1LT in the Army Reserve and have had a VA loan certificate for about 6 years now (just waiting to be put it to use). I have above average credit with a moderate amount credit card debt for which I have working plans to eliminate. However, I want to purchase a home sooner than I plan to rid myself of this debt. I also have what is probably considered a meager amount in savings.

Considering that I have about 6 months before I want to purchase, what advice could anyone give as to how I should spend the next 5 months as far as research, preparing for lump sum expenses, etc are concerned.

Thanks!
