In order to go to prison for pot you'd have to be dealing a LOT of pot or have one hell of a prior record.

If you get caught selling one joint, with no prior record of any kind, you can be sent to a federal prison for up to five years.

If you have one prior conviction for possession of marijuana, and are again caught in possession of marijuana, you can be sent to a federal prison for up to two years. If you have two prior convictions, your third conviction for possession can get a three-year sentence.

If you sell little plastic bags that would conveniently hold 5 grams of marijuana (never mind that they also conveniently hold quite a few other things, including other merchandise you sell), you can be convicted of felony sale of drug paraphernalia and sent to federal prison for up to three years.

In Louisiana, Mr. Corey Ladd got a third conviction for possession of marijuana. He was found in possession of 15 grams - half an ounce - of the stuff. Not selling, just possession. Nothing I've found on him mentions any other criminal charges, drug-related or otherwise. He was sentenced to TWENTY YEARS in state prison.
