In post #905 dan2 provided a link to some charts on Value Line High Income Fund. The interesting thing to me about those charts is that, despite a pretty wild ride on the price and yield curves, the rolling dividend is remarkably stable. Same thing with the Vanguard High Yield fund.

My wife and I will be retiring in a few years and a good portion of our income will come from fixed income investments. We won't care so much about fluctuations in principle so long as the income is really "fixed." Inflation protection will come from other sources. I would worry about any sizable direct investment in below investment grade bonds but it seems to me a well rated junk bond fund would be an excellent vehicle for a high and reliable income stream.
