In round numbers, if you could do it for $100k per school (which I think is an extremely low estimate for the cost of trained police officers)

Absurdly low, actually. You are going to have salary, and there is going to be training. And weapons. And uniforms. And benefits: health, pension, and the lke. And you are going to have to over staff, because people get sick, take vacations, have family emergencies...

There are 100,000 public schools. But wait, how about private schools? How about nursery schools? Are we going to put guards at colleges and universities? Most universities have their own security already, though they're not always armed. But smaller colleges? Are we going to staff them, too?

No, you're not looking at $10 billion, you're easily looking at triple, quadruple, or more. (And somehow the idea of "returning vets who can't find another job, walking around with a gun" doesn't inspire me with the greatest confidence.
