In Texas in most of the subdivisions...the garage is in the REAR off the alley.

you don't have many 'right and left hand' houses ...other than older subdivisions at least 50 years old.....and even then a lot of them have converted the garage into additional living space and they park on the street!

I grew up in what you call a right hand house....a small , very small, one car garage with no entry way into the house. If you wanted to get the lawn mower out, you had to move the car out first. There was maybe six feet in front of the car for junk storage and a shelf above. That was it. You left the garage, closed the door, and went in the front of the house.

The front door was on a small vestibule....you had to walk about 20 feet long the front of the house onto the front concrete porch, up 1 step...the front door was then a 90 deg turn. The door had a storm door and from inside you opened it with your left hand. You had a closet in front of you, made a 90% turn and then were in the small 'living room'.

There was a back door around the garage on a walk......that led into the kitchen.

My house in TX has a 2 car garage in the rear....as do tens of thousands here. Many have 2 1/2 car and 3 car garages. I still need to move one car out to get the lawnmower out....but I can walk around both cars.

My front door swings so from inside you use your right hand...but it is a big door and by the time you get it open you have time to move your hand and greet folks....

I could have built my house this way or flipped...but the lot I found was much more conducive to the way it is built.....

I'd be much more concerned with the layout of the kitchen that 'handedness of the garage'....
