In the town I patrol, there is a section which has many of these "McMansions" in it, only they're situated on tiny plots. The result is you have these monstrous structures all jammed together. Moreover, people are paying top dollar for them and property taxes alone can run to $20, $30, even $40,000 a year. Yes! You read that right. And I'm talking about lot sizes no bigger than 100 x 150.The interesting thing is that it is all about having a status symbol. The houses look nice on the outside, but when you go inside they are empty shells. The owners have paid so much for the house and on taxes, that they don't have enough for furnishings. By all means, consider the fixer-uppers because you'll at least have the ability to buy a couch to sit on and some rugs to walk on.Rich
