Index funds, on average, do NOT do worse than managed funds a bear market. In fact, they beat over 70% of all managed funds.A percent here or a percent there, the simple fact of the matter is that brokers and financial planners are great at making money off of their clients, but not so hot at making money for their clients. Even when they "advise" you to invest in an index fund, they frequently steer you to an index fund with high expenses and high loads, which in turn provides them with a commission or fee.
