I was supposed to have my free Obamacare colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago. I asked the Clinic what procedure and diagnosis codes they would be using and then called my insurance company to make sure everything was going to be covered 100% with no out-of-pocket cost.

The insurance company told me that if polyps were found, the pathology services required to analyze the polyps would not be covered cost-free and my $5,000 deductible would apply.

I immediately reported Blue Cross's fraudulent a$$ to the state insurance commissioner. The guy on the phone groaned and said, "That's not supposed to happen". It sounded like I wasn't the first person to complain.

I received two letters today from the insurance commissioner. The first was a copy of Blue Cross's letter to the Commissioner with their answer to my complaint saying that the policy language allows them to charge for the pathology services.

The second letter was from the Commissioner to Blue Cross telling them that they could stuff their policy language because Federal law requires them to cover the pathology services cost free.

I'm now waiting for Blue Cross to respond back to the insurance commissioner saying that they will comply with Federal law and pay for the pathology services, or file some kind of appeal or legal action to not have to cover the pathology.

Of course, I may have the colonoscopy and not have any polyps, making this exercise moot. But I wanted to make sure Blue Cross got their 'teet in the wringer' since I asked them the same question about what was covered on a free colonoscopy when I was shopping for health insurance and they gave me the same wrong answer.
