I completed most of an application for Interactive Brokers today. Then I hit the subscriptions page. At the top, it said there were no delayed quotes, and real-time quotes aren't free.

OK, how much does a quote subscription cost? Oops, it's broken down by country, and each country or group of countries gets its own pound of flesh. I suppose that's OK for somebody who specializes in daytrading a specific country. For adding to a diverse global portfolio, it seems to add up to a huge whack off the top.

I can live with the basic $10 minimum fee per month, and the commission schedule looks great, but if I'm going to have to sell a kidney each month to pay for the quote fees, it ain't gonna work. As far as I can tell, the quote subscriptions don't count toward the $10 min either.

Waiting for the ticker to scroll by on CNBC World before placing an order is going to get old too.

Am I missing something?
