Good morning,

US LEC Corp. today announced that it has signed an interconnection agreement with GTE in North Carolina.
"US LEC's interconnection agreement with GTE gives the company continued access to serve additional customers in North Carolina," said Wilbur Williams, US LEC's Senior Vice President of Sales. "We have successfully signed interconnection agreements with major local exchange carriers across North Carolina, and all across our operating footprint."

US LEC utilized the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to opt into an existing interconnection agreement between GTE and another telecommunications provider in North Carolina. The interconnection agreement will remain in effect until February of 2002, and it provides US LEC access to GTE's coverage area in and around Durham, Research Triangle Park and Monroe, North Carolina. US LEC currently has interconnection aggreements with GTE in North Carolina, Virginia and Florida.
