Interesting... are you saying that he carried the end of the Cell short but the end of Lisey long?

That's exactly what I'm saying.

I agree the the end of The Cell was abrupt... he left a lot of room for sequel work but it was obvious - his heart was not in the Cell... CASE IN POINT - the HARD cover version of The Cell contained the first chapter of Lisey. That usually doesn't happen until the paperback. In other words, what I think, The Cell paid the rent, Lisey's Story is what he wanted to write.

King has more money than God... he doesn't write books to pay the rent anymore. ;~) That first chapter of "Lisey's Story" was previously in print. It was included in "New Beginnings", a book put out in 2005 to help with the Tsunami relief effort.
