I opened a Roth IRA this year and when I sent the check I wrote that it was my year 2000 contribution. I later realized that I have not made a 1999 contribution yet! Can I still send another check as my 1999 contribution?

Based on the booklets my broker sent me, you have up until April 17th to get the payment in. I don't think the order should matter.

Yes, you can send your 1999 Roth IRA contribution by April 15, 2000.

Yes. You can send your 1999 contribution any time before April 17, 2000. Just make sure that it is marked '1999 Roth IRA Contribution' so the broker will log it correctly.
