I am considering withdrawing $10,000 to help with the downpayment on our first home. To do so, I will have to sell stock held for less than 1 year. Any thoughts out there on whether I should sell losers vs. winners?? Ignore, for now, the companies' prospects and whether the stocks are heading up or down. I am in a high(36%) tax bracket. If I were to sell losers, would I consider the $10,000 as ordinary income and then deduct the capital loss? Thanks for any input.
