I've reviewed IRS pub 590 (IRAs) and was amused by a statement (on page 21) that one has the option to either withdraw the entire balance from an IRA or take periodic payments. That's all that was said about the lump sum - no mention of penalty or taxes, etc. Anyone been in this dither before, tried it, have recommendations? Also anyone know of a calculator for plugging in 'what-ifs'for IRa withdrawals? My plan is to make a spread and run the figures out for a few years & see what happens to taxes, estimated taxes, etc. At the moment I'm ready to withdraw it all, take my chances and be done with the IRS messing up my retirement. Many thanks for whatever hints you may have. jimru
