I understand that no gift tax return need be filed if a husband and wife each give no more than $11,000 to any individual donee this year.If the wife has a financial power of attorney (husband has Alzheimer's)could she sign a check for $22,000 to each of their children, or would it be necessary for her to sign 2 separate checks for $11,000, perhaps with a note in the memo section on one indicating that it is a gift on behalf of her husband, to avoid having to file a gift tax return? Thanks,Tom
